Bridging engineering and policy to drive the next era of climate solutions.
About
Hannah is passionate about combining an engineer's tools and mindset with the power of institutions to tackle climate change – the most pressing environmental challenge of our time.
Hannah is Associate Director of Climate and Environment at the Federation of American Scientists, where she founded and leads the organization's Climate and Environment program. She also co-directs FAS's Center for Regulatory Ingenuity, a transpartisan hub bringing the climate and state capacity communities together to reimagine American environmental governance. In these roles, she provides technical expertise, policy-relevant thought leadership, and public commentary on a wide range of climate and environmental topics.
Hannah was previously Director for Transportation & Resilience at the White House Climate Policy Office, managing key pillars of the Biden-Harris Administration's historic climate agenda. She also served in the Obama White House, where she co-organized the first-ever White House Water Summit and was a two-time recipient of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) Award for Excellence. As a doctoral student, she chaired the City of Davis Natural Resources Commission and co-led wastewater surveillance for Healthy Davis Together, a multimillion-dollar pandemic-response program that The New York Times called “the most ambitious program of its type in the country.”
Hannah holds a B.S.E. in Chemical and Biological Engineering, an M.Eng. in Environmental Engineering and Water Resources, and an M.P.A. in Public and International Affairs from Princeton, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from UC Davis. Her work and commentary have appeared in outlets including the New York Times, Nature, Politico, Forbes, and Axios, and she is a regular guest analyst on Al Jazeera English.
Hannah is trying to run a marathon in all 50 states and was a runner-up on Jeopardy! She lives in Arlington, VA with her wife and toddler son, as well as an energetic hound-beagle mix who has reinforced her conviction that she is a cat person.
